Mai Tai

Trader Vic’s, an iconic tiki bar, was opened in Oakland, California in the mid-1930’s. It was there that the classic tiki drink, the Mai Tai, was created. Some say the name came from the Tahitian word for good, or maita'i. Mai Tai’s became popular in the United States in the 1960’s around the time that Hawaii became a state and the Polynesian experience captured the imagination of Americans, who flocked to the islands to get away from it all in a tropical paradise.
